The Seven Sacraments

Like an open door allowing the wind to blow into a house, the sacraments make it possible for the spirit of Christ to cross the threshold separating heaven and earth, illuminating and blessing our lives.

Baptism
Receives and blesses the child into the religious community, represented particularly by the godparents.

Confirmation
Takes place at the age of fourteen to strengthen and support a young person’s path into life.

The Sacrament of Consultation
Is religious counseling regarding one’s destiny. It supports the individual’s efforts to take responsibility for his or her life. (By request and confidential)

The Consecration of the Human Being
Is at the center of our sacramental life. It is a renewal of the archetypal form of early Christian worship, the Mass (or Eucharist).

Last Anointing
Along with the burial ritual, helps the dying to free themselves from the body and move into body-free spiritual life.

Ordination of Priests
The sacraments are performed by the priest through the power conferred by the Sacrament of Ordination. In The Christian Community both men and women can become priests.

Marriage
Blesses the decision of a man and woman to share community of life, supported by two chosen witnesses.

We support same-sex couples wishing to mark their union within a religious context by offering a ritual service created in consultation with a priest. The marriage sacrament in The Christian Community is expressly intended to heal the original division of the sexes into male and female, and as such is not applicable for same-sex couples.

The Sacrament of Consultation and/or confidential conversation with a priest is available upon request. Please call or email for an appointment.
